The Grosse Ile Duathlon returns to the island on May 21, 2011 and Al Petri & Sons is proud to provide the technical support for the event again this year. Look for our tent near the transition area and stop by to say hi!
There is rich and proud history with this event going back to when Gene Edwards introducing it to the downriver community. Attracting some of the best duathletes in the Midwest and Canada. At one time getting several of Team USA's duathletes as well as Canada's elite to battle it out on those cold April dates.

The event has switched sides of the island to a great location utilizing the Grosse Ile Airport facilities, which is a perfect venue. This is a great destination for a duathlon, racing around the island 25k on the bike and running on the closed runway of the airport. This event is part of the new Michigan Duathlon Series and Club Challenge. Proceeds from this event will go to the Naval Memorial fund. There will be other festivities going on after the race with World War 2 planes.

Why Should You Choose Al Petri & Sons?

Metro Detroit's Al Petri & Sons Bicycles has been a fixture in the Downriver bicycling community since 1946. In the years since, this community has grown dramatically. The staff at both Al Petri & Sons locations are proud to continue serving the Downriver area with the best products available in the industry. We have been voted the Best Bicycle Shop in Metro Detroit the past three years!
As bike industry professionals, we look forward to sharing our knowledge and experience with every customer that visits either of our stores. We love what we do ~ our goal is to offer all the product and service of a world-class bike shop. Our customers really seem to appreciate our effort; we have many folks shop here who are fourth and fifth generation customers.

So, when you're thinking of buying a new bicycle, one of your first choices, and not necessarily an easy one, will be where to shop. It can be a challenge because there are a myriad of stores that carry two-wheelers, from specialty retailers, to giant department stores, to backyard garage operations.

Where you buy, however, has everything to do with what you get. You see, bicycles aren't like toasters or suitcases. Bikes are shipped in boxes and they must be assembled and tuned.

There are many types, too, and you should never buy until you've figured out which is right for you. Measurements and adjustments are required to ensure the frame is the correct size and that the seat and handlebars are properly positioned. And, every new bicycle will need a minor tune-up after several weeks of use.

What's more, modern road and mountain bikes can travel at high speeds and carry you over demanding terrain where the machine's materials and construction get tested. A quality two-wheeler, carefully assembled and fit to you, will be the safest, most durable and fun bicycle to ride.

For these reasons, we strongly recommend shopping at Al Petri & Sons.We are experienced cycling professionals whose knowledge is unmatched in the Metro Detroit area. For instance, we hire competent salespeople and expert mechanics who'll ensure that you get the right bike and a quality machine. Look for a store that's clean, has helpful personnel, offers a good selection, and an on-site repair department.
